Hey guys and gals,
I went to the hockey school with a few fellow Demons on Sunday and Monday and really enjoyed what G, Pirps and Harty showed us over the 2 days.
I would've loved to do the full week but like alot of people I haven't got the cash or the time off work so I thought I'd have a dig around and find some of the types of exercises we were shown that we can all do at home.
Plyometric exercises really help your agility and explosive power making you quicker off the mark and devoloping the muscles much needed for hockey. It is also a really good way to 'up' your fitness as we all found out!!!!!
These are some simple ones to get you all started!
there's an exfercise programme I use called p90x and they have an hour long workout just on plyometrics (those of you using bit torrent or other such programme can find it too) and it is awesome if anyone is more on this

When searching for Plyometrics yesterday i came accross p90x: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P90X is an hour everyday Dan?
basically plyo is one of 12 DVDs and it is about hour 15 a day....if you look at my pics on facebook I have an album when I first did it of before and after but have rolled it on since and nver been fitter... Got me from over 14 stone to 12 now and I haven't really followed the diet but it is hard but easy to do as all you need is a pull up bar and Some weights (heaviest I lift is only 30s) but I reccmend it
And a fair few hockey players/forums recommendedit hence me tryi g it as I am clueless in the gym LOL
LOL what can I say iwas proud... Don't need to post hem now though they're better
Will answer here as well though I answered you on facebook but I stuck to workouts quite strictly though did them whenever I could fit ten in sometimes in night sometimes morning etc did occasionaly do two in a day bit not often but when I needed too.
Diet I didn't stick to too well so you can probably do better on that but you will still see results
Training days I still do it though if I do of ore training advisable to leave a fair gap as it is a killer or try and arrange the sequence that you do stretching on that day (I usually do that for a Sunday as I train twice then in hockey)
The off ice training introduction for me was one of the best parts of the hockey school. As Rob says, its amazing how 30 seconds of seemingly harmless exercises can hurt, as I put on my facebook yesterday (Thanks for the comment Dan!)
I think it would be a great idea to do some of these either before or after a PTG session as well as on non-training days
Well boys, seeing as most of us get to training pretty early Fridays, why don't we do 30min of it. Also Dan trains with us fridays and seems he's most experienced in this field (after me of course ) so he can lead us?
Just a thought, cos I know if we do it together, its easier than finding the motivation to do it on your own.
well if anyone has an idea of where you can do it I actually have a portable DVD player we can use and TOny Horton can lead it not sure if it's best doing it that close to training but if some want to I'm usually there by half five or someone can meet me in town if they want it there earlier.... I prefer to do it on my own though as don't like to splatter other people with my sweat as I do it LOL
Following this weeks Hockey school, Mike Prpich has just emailed me and asked if we'd like to do some off ice training with him?
It would (possibly) be at UWIC and be approx £5, which would cover the cost of entry to to the facilities. The facilities are prety good and we could do a lot of varied activities there
He would cover a lot of the plyometrics stuff we have done at hockey school as well as other exercises he has personally found good during his hockey career.
There are no definite dates yet, but Mike is looking to gague interest before putting the wheels into motion.
Drop me an email, text or reply to this thread if you are interested in such a session.
